The Manager, Data Science will support Charter’s AI initiatives by serving as a Next-Best-Action (NBA) Specialist. Key responsibilities will include configuring new offers/actions and treatments as well as supporting the QA, simulation, reporting, monitoring, and control of Next-Best-Actions. The Manager will utilize quantitative analysis to address critical business issues and support strategic decision making for the company. By employing innovative analytical and statistical methods, the Manager will support the team’s efforts to use data to better explain the profile and key drivers of consumer behaviors and translate those into actions that can be operationalized. The position leverages best-in-class AI tools and other technology to deliver actionable insights.


MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leverage analysis to support sales and marketing efforts, including offers, promotions, and other customer-focused actions:

  • Develop Save Offer recommendation analytics, working in a team to deliver data processes to enable IT systems, and inform BI tools to evaluate Post Save Offer churn and revenue impacts.
  • Assist in the building of predictive models which leverage broad set attributes (e.g., demographic data, customer behavior, geographical data, etc.) to maximize consumer insights, customer satisfaction, and marketing effectiveness.
  • Scoring, recalibration, validation, and maintenance of Next-Best-Action implementation.

Analyze the predictors of response to various offers and other customer-centric actions at the key trigger points in the customer experience:

  • Conduct data analysis on product usage and platform preferences to enhance upsell and engagement marketing to existing subscribers
  • Create sizing analyses and monitor customers experiencing a lifecycle event associated with increased risk of disconnecting or changing the suite of products purchased.
  • Identify key customer segments in order to support testing new engagement tactics and assess impact to revenue and churn rate.

Work in a collaborative environment with other data scientists, IT professionals, researchers, product experts, and sales/marketing professionals to implement new targeting approaches at a dynamic telecommunications company.

  • Support strategic decisions in Sales and Marketing through insights related to how various consumer segments use our products and interact through various sales and support channels when making a purchase or other packaging decision.

Support the implementation of various changes in Pega environment, including propensity that customer will accept an offer, how customer input/context will influence recommended actions, value of the various actions to the business, and strategic business levers. Additionally, supports the implementation of Charter’s engagement policy to define rules around eligibility, applicability, and suitability of various actions to ensure that individual customers receive the best recommendation given their unique attributes.

  • Requirement Analysis – Perform impact analysis on new requirements and translate simple requirements into strategies
  • NBA Configuration – Develop new actions and treatments in Pega’s Customer Decision Hub; refine and enhance existing NBA strategies through new content, rules, etc.
  • NBA Support – Support testing, QA, business simulation, Next-Best-Action reporting, monitoring, and control.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • This role is based on-site at our corporate office in Stamford, CT. This role is not remote/hybrid


WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO SPECTRUM

Required Qualifications

  • Experience:
    • 6+ years of Statistical Analysis
    • 3+ years of Business Analysis
    • 3+ years of SQL/R/SAS Programming
    • 2+ years of Internal client relationship management -
    • Experience with R (required) and/or Python (desired) (including relevant packages) in support of advanced analytics
    • Experience with relational databases, including SQL and utilizing data stored in complex schemas
    • Some experience in the telecommunications industry, or two other consumer-based industries
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, operations research or other quantitatively-focus field
  • Skills:
    • In-depth logical and analytic skills
    • Experience and solid theoretical foundation on the modeling process using a variety of algorithms
    • Data profiling, distributions, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing skills
    • Data pre-processing, exploratory data analysis using a variety of techniques
    • Regression and classification using linear models, GLMs, and tree-based methods
    • Interpretation of model results, consideration of causality, treatment of multicollinearity
    • Synthesis and presentation skills
    • Basic understanding of data architecture, data warehouse and data marts
  • Abilities:
    • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
    • Ability to holdout for testing, cross-validation

  • Preferred Skills/Abilities and Knowledge

    Experience with Pega (or similar AI software/tools); particularly Next-Best-Action (NBA) decision engine and Pega Customer Decision Hub (CDH)

    Experience with AWS: SQL, UDFs, interpreting explain plans, basic performance-tuning, and use of database catalog

    Experience and theoretical foundation using a variety of techniques such as: Regression, Random Forest decision trees, K-means clustering, Neural Networks, etc.

    Operations-research background, in particular focused on large labor operations such as field ops, technical support, sales/marketing
    Background with Cable or telco systems and operations
    Knowledge of other relevant techniques such as text analysis and text mining
    Familiarity with the open-source ecosystems surrounding R (CRAN) and/or Python (PyPi)
